Here at Material ConneXion, we’re always researching the leading-edge materials that will help you future-proof your business and lead with confidence. Here, we’ve identified the top five materials that our team of specialists and researchers are most excited by, live in our library and database now.
MC # 8197-02 Brrr° Natural: Cool-to touch, air-activated fabric that provides continuous cooling. This material uses a proprietary combination of minerals that are integrated in the natural staple fibers during their carding and combing process and are air-activated, offering a cooling touch and sustained cooling of the skin. Contrary to this technology, other cooling materials on the market are based on moisture wicking or are chemically treated in a dye bath. Applications include baby swaddlers, bedding, men’s suiting, intimate wear, and outdoor apparel.
MC # 8224-01 Forged Carbon: A simple, expedited molding process to create lightweight forged carbon-fiber composite parts with specific design and color features. The standard woven carbon fiber composites are typically made layer by layer and infused with epoxy or in premade sheets, which are baked to a form in an autoclave. In the case of forged carbon composites, a mixture of chopped carbon fibers and epoxy is used to form parts in a mold, cured at high temperature and pressure, followed by painting and polishing for a high-quality surface finish. Applications are for automobile interior parts, audio cases, sports goods, glass frames, smartphone back covers, and accessories.
MC # 8222-01 Regenerated Collagen Fiber: Textile fibers made from collagen. Collagen fibers have a very smooth surface and an inherent softness. They also readily absorb and release humidity, balancing moisture. This absorbent behavior aids in dye uptake and results in deep colors. Applications include cosmetic facemasks, accessories, lingerie, base layers, sleepwear, and bedding.
MC # 8128-03 Photochromic Knit 4176TC: A mercerized cotton knit coated fabric with a photochromic coating applied. The UV-sensitive coating is designed to change color when exposed to the wavelengths found in sunlight. The mercerized interlock cotton knit and PU coating are used to provide softness, breathability, a non-plastic handfeel. Applications include apparel (jackets, t-shirts, skirts, tops, etc.), shoes, bags, and cases.
MC # 8226-02 Ion Plasma Evaporation (IPE): A vacuum deposition process used to create thin metallic or ceramic films on objects for decoration. This process is an environmentally friendly alternative to chrome plating. Coated products also have an anti-static property after coating when using a metallic film layer. Applications include automotive interiors and consumer electronics.
